Quick answer: A Harrison County mechanics lien is a claim of lien filed with the Harrison County Chancery Clerk, which keeps offices in both judicial districts: 1801 23rd Avenue in Gulfport and 730 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Biloxi. The clerk no longer accepts handwritten documents. The deadline is 90 days from your last labor, services or materials. See the full Mississippi deadlines and statutes.
Where Harrison County liens are filed
Harrison County Chancery Clerk Angela Thrash is the county’s primary record keeper, with a Judicial District 1 office at 1801 23rd Avenue, Gulfport, and a Judicial District 2 office at 730 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, Biloxi. The clerk’s Recording Department lists construction liens among the real estate documents it records.
Since House Bill 600 amended Mississippi Code § 89-5-24, the Harrison County Chancery Clerk’s office won’t accept handwritten documents. Filings have to meet the amended section, the clerk’s deed formatting guidance and the state Electronic Recording Commission’s rules and standards. Every claim we file is typed and formatted to those standards.
The Records Vault and the fraud alert
The clerk’s Records Vault keeps the official real property records, with indexes by legal description in both Gulfport and Biloxi. Staff help people find and copy records but can’t run title research or lien searches, so we pull the vesting deed ourselves from Land Records Online and the Harrison County Land Roll.
Since 2023 the clerk has offered a Deed and Mortgage Fraud Alert Service, so a signed-up owner may hear about recording activity on the property quickly. The claim has to be right the first time, and the copies have to reach the owner within 2 business days.
Where we file across Harrison County
Harrison County’s cities are Gulfport, Biloxi, D’Iberville, Long Beach and Pass Christian, plus the unincorporated county. With two judicial districts and two clerk offices, we confirm which district the parcel is in before filing.
Harrison County work runs from casino, hotel and waterfront projects to new homes and storm repairs. Biloxi reports $321 million of Katrina water, sewer and drainage work completed so far, construction underway on the 100,000-square-foot Mississippi Cyber and Technology Center, and a 102-room Home2 Suites going up on Beach Boulevard. City and county infrastructure is public work, protected by payment bonds instead of liens.

Example: a Harrison County deadline walk-through
Example: A lumber supplier selling to a framing sub makes its first delivery to a Biloxi restaurant project on September 2, so its 30-day notice to the general contractor is due by October 2. Its last delivery is December 15, so the typed claim of lien has to be filed with the Harrison County Chancery Clerk by March 15 (90 days), with copies mailed within 2 business days.
